GREAT INFO FROM CECI!

I would offer one personal request for your family.  Please support local businesses…. restaurants, flower shops, bakeries, clothing stores etc.  If you treasure these small towns of Ireland, buy from local merchants so they remain viable. Competition from huge stores like Dunnes, Penneys and Aldi drives the smaller, more personal stores out of business.  When they are gone, the magic of the town goes with them!   Small historic towns like Ennis depend on the tourist income to stay afloat and it’s more important than ever :)

QUICK RESOURCES & Links

*** Hidden Jewel for you! County of Culture Tour Series aka  “Riches of Clare” series –Unbeatable day trips from Ennis to the neighboring towns with regional concerts.  Highly recommended!!   Gearoid and Joan Hanrahan were featured musicians in this program last year.

***"Gwan The Town" concert  Tuesday 15 August (8pm) in Glór Theatre Gearoid is part of this concert :)  Also Look out for Socks in the Frying Pan, fun young band (first part of same concert)

MISCELLANEOUS

Lots of WiFi all over.  Just remember to restrict "roaming" to wifi in your phone settings or you will have a monster bill when you get home.  Personally, we always checked our email in the lobby of the West County Hotel or in Suas Coffee shop :)

Radio:  Clare FM  The West Wind show  Presenter Joan Hanrahan is a cousin of Gearóid's and taught fiddle at MADWeek 2016.   24/7 live and podcast - Station will host outdoor features during the festival. Billie McComiskey was on this program last summer. Joan is frequently a MC for the big stage events. If you see her, feel very free to introduce yourselves as friends of ours. (Her husband is Alan Hogan and kids are Paddy and Síofra) They are a younger than our Tiarnán.

Clare FM - 96.4 FM Ennis, Clare - Listen Online - TuneIn

Sunglasses, ibuprofen and favorite allergy meds:  lots of first time visitors get headaches from the glare, the heaviness of the air or hayfever from farms in full harvest mode

Books and souvenoirs:  Ennis Bookshop 13 Abbey St   Tell them you are a fan of author Gearóid Ó hAllmhurain  LOL

Music CDS:  Custy’s Traditional Music Shop, Cooke's Lane off O’Connell Street

Passports– carry a photocopy of your passport photo page, but leave your real one at your lodgings

Cash - you can easily get euros from any bank ATM machine.  Gives you better exchange rate and minimal conversion charge  There are banks all over Ennis.

Insurance:  I always recommend travel insurance which covers medical. lost luggage and travel changes.

Rain:  It will happen.  Unavoidable :)  Just pack a small umbrella and portable rain coat and it won't matter :)

Shoes:  You will do TONS of walking ,so be comfortable.  **** Personally, I pack my dance shoes in my carry-on luggage, but that's because my luggage has been lost too often.  You can see where MY priorities are!

  • SHOES (especially like my shiny black dance shoes) Pat McCarthy Shoes (55 O'Connell Street)
